Exhibition Project | with Adelheid | Field of Days
In this exhibition project, developed in collaboration with Adéla Vávrová—known artistically as Adelheid—we present her new painting series FIELD OF DAYS.
Building on her long-term exploration of figurative painting and imaginary landscapes, Adelheid has cultivated a distinctive creative process. Her work unfolds like an upward spiral, where imagery and lived experience are in constant dialogue. This approach allows her to respond intuitively to emerging stimuli, revealing insights into her inner world through visual expression.
Throughout the development of this project, I frequently visited Adelheid’s studio. Our many in-depth conversations played an important role in shaping the concept of the exhibition. She found inspiration in my curatorial perspective, philosophical insights, and personal life experiences, which provided new angles for reflecting on her own work. This mutual exchange enriched the direction of the series and deepened the collaborative process.
At the heart of the FIELD OF DAYS series are two central motifs: the Rooster and the Sunflower. These symbolic figures serve as key narrators within the visual story.
The Rooster represents the masculine principle—courage, protection, generosity, and new beginnings. Rooted in both Greek mythology and ancient Slavic symbolism, this archetype radiates vitality and renewal. Its vibrant plumage and luminous palette evoke the power and warmth of the sun.
The Sunflower, with its intrinsic orientation to sunlight, symbolizes growth, transformation, and life’s wisdom. As it turns to follow the sun, the sunflower gradually reaches its full bloom—at which point it becomes still. In this stillness lies a sense of fulfillment, marking the completion of a cycle.
Much like a field of sunflowers—each unique yet part of a greater whole—this exhibition presents a sequence of individual visual "chapters." Together, they form a cohesive artistic narrative. FIELD OF DAYS reflects the artist’s personal memories and emotional responses, offering an intimate look at her evolving creative journey.
Artist Bio: Adéla Vávrová (Adelheid)
Adelheid’s artistic journey is deeply influenced by her background in clothing design and art therapy. Her creative development has followed a path of continual exploration—drawing from diverse artistic disciplines, techniques, and a wide range of lived experiences, both ordinary and extraordinary.
A significant influence in her early years was painter and sculptor Nadia Verner, who played a crucial role in shaping her artistic outlook. Adelheid also draws inspiration from John Berger, whose writings on visual culture inform her philosophical approach to art, and from the expressive, emotionally charged work of Georg Baselitz, which resonates with her preference for profound narrative and symbolism.
A recurring theme in her work is the memory of the English countryside, where she spent part of her childhood and continues to return. Dreams, archetypes, and symbols are integral to her creative process, guiding her toward reflections on impermanence and the search for inner balance.
